Established in 2006 by Sally Karamath, Casting off the Cold is a volunteer organization of knitters and crocheters based in York Region who handcraft clothing and blankets for donation to shelters, support organizations and hospitals.

For the last three years Casting Off the Cold has donated in excess of 1500 items to these organizations.
They have approximately 40 volunteers but are always looking for more to join the group. The group meets on the first Sunday of each month at Markham Village Library between 1-3 pm and at the Stouffville Library on the third Sunday, between 1-3 pm.
